As of writing this, there are only 140 Days, 6 Hours and 51 Minutes until the kick off of the 2008 Republic Of Texas Motorcycle Rally. Thanks to my extreme dedication in securing an awesome RV lot for this years rally (they went on sale at 12:01 am on January 1 – how lame), Edward and I scored D116 in the Yellow lot.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided to go out to the grounds, in the rain no less, and crack open a couple 24 ouncers. Good ol’ Miller High Life… it really is the champagne of beers!

There is a little pub in the north Austin area called BB Rover's Cafe & Pub. Thanks in part to their massive beer selection, over 300 to be exact, there is what they call "The 101 Club".

For you beer drinkers in the Austin, Texas area (Google, I’m counting on you here), I wanted to give you a heads up on a new web based application I have written. There is a little pub in the north Austin area called BB Rover’s. Thanks in part to their massive beer selection, over 300 to be exact, there is what they call “The 101 Club”.

It basically boils down to you consuming 101 different beers utilizing their extensive menu. There is no time limit for this feat. Once accomplished, besides the free T-shirt and your name on a big wall plaque, you are entitled to a lifetime discount on food and drinks along with a yearly party for club members where you can eat and booze it up for free.

To track your progress, you are given a paper based list of their “current” selection – which changes regularly and therefore isn’t reflected on your list. I was kind of put off by this for a couple reasons. First, what if I lose my list, get caught on my bike in the rain, etc, and can’t remember what I have already consumed? Secondly, the list doesn’t update like their selection does. It seems like every time I go there, new beers are available. In addition to the above, there is no place on their sheet to track the date you drank the beer or if you even liked it or not.

I have tried to address these issues with my web application along with giving the user several options for helping them select their next beer. There is the ability to share your list with friends and even buy them a beer.

For those of you that are interested, be sure to check it out – sign up is free!

Here is how it normally goes down: I'm alone at home, I start the game, grab the first of many a beer from my mini fridge, and rock out. It seems, at least to me, the longer I play (i.e. the more I drink) the better I get. The high score boards in the game also reflect this, so it isn't just me thinking I'm awesome - or is it? Thus, an experiment is born.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m a huge Guitar Hero fan. Since my life has been fairly busy and hectic as of late, it’s pretty much the only game I ever get to play, since it doesn’t require a massive commitment. Here is how it normally goes down: I’m home alone, I start the game, grab the first of many a beer from my mini fridge, and rock out. It seems, at least to me, the longer I play (i.e. the more I drink) the better I get. The high score boards in the game also reflect this, so it isn’t just me thinking I’m awesome – or is it? Thus, an experiment is born.

I have composed a list of ten songs, the ones I play most regularly. I will take part in two separate play sessions – one without any beer at all, and the other whilst partaking. Here are the rules I have set into place:

Songs Must Be Played In One Sitting

Songs Must Be Played In Order

Songs Must Be Played On Expert Difficulty (Free Bird On Hard)

A Minimum Of Four, And Maximum Of Six Beers Consumed

Results Based On Number Of Notes Hit – Not Final Point Score

I decided to base the amount of total rock awesome on the ratio of notes hit for each song. There are certain factors in the game that contribute to your final score per track, but this should provide a nice constant to go by. Other statistics for each song will be listed – just for shits and giggles.

UPDATE 1: Round One Completed! (non-drinking)

UPDATE 2: It All Came Down To Free Bird…

It appears that the rapid flow of notes towards the end of Free Bird was just to much for my drunken head to decipher. However, my stage presence, while drinking, more than makes up for the missed notes!

Mike gave me such a great early birthday party last night while my mother was here visiting from Chicago. A total of 16 of us met up in Walburg, TX, at my favorite German place there for lots of food, beer, games, and live music. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had so much fun.
